This year Kizhi Island celebrated the 300-year anniversary of its main church, of the church of Transfiguration. The festival lasted 5 days. The main events took place on the 19th of August, on the day of Transfiguration.

Guests of the Kizhi Museum were greeted with the beautiful bell chime. In the morning a festive church service took place in the church of Intercession. For the first time in the history of Kizhi Island the church service was translated on a big screen for all the guests outside the church to see the service. Afterwards a religious procession went around the walls of the Kizhi Ensemble.

The governor of Karelia with the representatives of the Karelian parliament and ministry of culture, UNESCO specialists, the head of the Finland Consulate in St. Petersburg, and many other guests from all over the world came to congratulate the staff of the Kizhi Museum with such a remarkable event.
The Kizhi Museum arranged a great surprise for its guests. 70 musicians of the Karelian Philharmonic Orchestra played on the open-air stage with the view over the churches of the Kizhi Ensemble. This combination of wooden architecture and classical music made a deep impression on all the spectators.
